Analyzes, designs, develops, debugs and maintains software for database applications as well as developing the interface between database applications and other software elements.

Specific skills include:

• Experience with column-oriented data warehousing systems such as Sybase IQ
• Experience in C++ and Object-Oriented Design and Analysis
• Experience designing, developing, integrating, and testing applications with database components
• Experience with analysis, reporting, and visualization tools for data warehouses
• Experience with UNIX-like operating systems

In addition, knowledge of current software development methodologies. Exposure to, or knowledge of the SEI Capability Maturity Model (CMM) at level 2 or above and associated processes and methods is strongly preferred. Typically programs in 3 GL (third generation languages: e.g., C, C++, and Java). May work independently or as part of a team in customer facilities depending upon level. Knowledge of tools and languages such as Rational Rose, UML or XML is a definite plus.

1. Estimates the scope of complex efforts and performs to cost and schedule on such efforts.

2. Provides technical and research guidance to others in his/her area of expertise.

3. May participate in customer briefings.

4. Provides technical support to bidding and proposal efforts.

5. May give technical guidance to lower level engineers and technicians.

Qualifications

Requires 5+ years experience and a BS degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent experience. Requires a background in C, C++ or Java.
