Description
Webroot is currently seeking a Threat Research Analyst for the following role:
Responsibilities
- Conduct research to discover spyware/malware, creating signatures to detect and identify installed malicious software
- Identify new distribution methods and techniques for removal
- Analyze information and develop methods of detection and removal of spyware
- Script/Develop/Maintain tools to classify and organize large sample collections
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while quickly learning a breadth of new concepts and technologies
Required Skills and Experience
- 2+ years experience in a hands-on IT role
- 1+ years recent scripting experience (eg. Perl, Python, Ruby) and/or Programming experience (C/C++ or C# preferred)
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience is required
- Strong troubleshooting abilities, ability to work unsupervised
Windows-specific knowledge is a MUST, including:
- Understanding of Windows file/folder structures and file access methods
- In-depth knowledge of the Windows Registry
- Knowledge of Windows Security features, including UAC, Windows Firewall, DEP, user privileges
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Hands-on experience installing / managing / troubleshooting the following:
- Personal Firewalls
- Anti-virus software
- Anti-spam software
- Anti-spyware software
- Utilities that monitor system changes, like regmon, filemon, GOBACK, etc.
- Trojans
- System Monitors
- Adware
- Viruses
- Rootkits
- Keystroke Loggers
- VMWare
- Linux operating systems
